Sunday, November 30 I have approved you.—Luke 3:22.

Sunday, November 30

I have approved you.—Luke 3:22.

Jehovah gives his holy spirit to those whom he approves of. (Matt. 12:18) We can ask ourselves, ‘Have I been able to display some aspect of the fruitage of God’s spirit in my life?’ Do you notice that you are more patient with others than you were before you came to know Jehovah? Actually, the more you learn to display the fruitage of God’s spirit, the more evident it will be to you that you have Jehovah’s approval! Jehovah applies the value of the ransom to those whom he approves of. (1 Tim. 2:5, 6) But what if our heart resists the idea that Jehovah approves of us, even though we have faith in the ransom and are baptized? Remember, we cannot always trust our own feelings but we can trust Jehovah. He considers those who have faith in the ransom to be righteous in his eyes and promises to bless them.—Ps. 5:12; Rom. 3:26. w24.03 30 ¶15; 31 ¶17

Notice how the passage keeps pulling our attention back to Jehovah’s view, not our own feelings. Luke records the words “I have approved you,” and the study material builds directly on that point. It reminds us that Jehovah gives his spirit only to those he approves. That’s not flattery. That’s a fact anchored in Scripture.

What do we learn from that? We learn that approval isn’t measured by a passing emotion. It’s measured by the evidence of his spirit at work in a person’s life. When a brother or sister sees patience growing, or kindness becoming more natural, that’s not self-delusion. That’s fruitage. And fruitage doesn’t grow in a heart Jehovah hasn’t blessed.

But notice the warning embedded in the material. A heart can resist the truth of Jehovah’s approval. A feeling can rise up and argue against the evidence. That’s why the reminder is needed: feelings are not always trustworthy, but Jehovah is. He applies the ransom to those who exercise faith. He views them as righteous. Psalm 5:12 says he surrounds such ones with favor. Romans 3:26 confirms his justice in doing so.

So when a faithful servant struggles to accept Jehovah’s approval, the danger isn’t a lack of worth — it’s listening too closely to a feeling. The safe path is the steady one: trust what Jehovah says about you rather than what your heart whispers in a tired moment.

That’s the lesson I take from this text. And it’s a needed one in these days when emotions can pull a person in the wrong direction if they aren’t careful.
